These plans will identify load-bearing walls, the depth and width of excavation etc.
The work itself involves using plant equipment to dig a trench to a pre-determined level outlined in the aforementioned plans. Then concrete is laid down, to a the very least a depth of 150mm. Then blocks are laid which reach up to floor level. We are skilled in the installation of both simple foundations and engineered foundations, which are ideal for larger buildings on more precarious ground. The team at Lucas Groundworks is proficient in the installation of both solid slab oversites, as well as beam and block floors. Solid slab oversites involves laying footings, then filling the inside space with hardcore. This is then layered with sand that fills in any gaps. A damp proof course and insulation are placed above before screed covers it all.
Beam and block floors on the other hand are dry laid, and made-up of concrete beams placed on top of walls’ inner leaf and the aforementioned damp proof course. Gaps are filled with foundation blocks. Footings are installed in the normal way.
